What it can cover

Where the money can go.

A personal loan is paid into your bank account, so you decide how to use it.

  • Repairs and waterproofing

Fix leaks, walls, wiring and plumbing.

  • Kitchen and bathroom

A modular kitchen or a new bathroom.

  • Painting and interiors

Paint, flooring, lights and false ceilings.

  • Furniture and appliances

Fill the rooms once the work is done.

Plan it well

Three things to do first.

  1. Get quotes first

Ask two or three contractors for written quotes before you pick an amount.

  2. Keep a buffer

Renovations often cost more than planned. Leave room for surprises.

  3. Pay in stages

Pay contractors as the work is done, not all upfront.

Before you borrow

Have a home loan? Compare a top-up too.

A top-up or home improvement loan on your home loan is secured on your home, so it often costs less, but it needs property papers and usually takes longer. A personal loan needs no collateral and is usually quicker.

  • Personal loan: no collateral, usually faster
  • Top-up or home improvement loan: secured on your home
  • Compare the APR and total cost of both

Example EMI

₹13,167 /month

For ₹5,00,000 over 48 months at an example rate of 12% a year. Not an offer; fees not included.

Good to know

Your rights as a borrower.

  • A Key Fact Statement before you sign

The lender must give you a Key Fact Statement with the APR, every fee and the repayment schedule before you sign. It stays valid for at least three working days, and a fee that isn’t in it can’t be charged without your consent.

  • Prepaying a floating-rate loan

For floating-rate personal loans sanctioned or renewed from 1 January 2026, lenders can’t charge a fee to prepay. Most personal loans have a fixed rate, so check the prepayment terms in the KFS.

  • Never pay to get a loan

Firstfund doesn’t charge you to apply. A real lender pays the loan into your own bank account, deducts any processing fee shown in the KFS, and never asks for money upfront.

Based on Reserve Bank of India directions on Key Facts Statements (2024), pre-payment charges (2025) and digital lending (2025). Your lender’s KFS and loan agreement have the final terms.

Questions

Home renovation: FAQs.

Can tenants take a loan for renovation?

Yes. A personal loan doesn’t need you to own the home. Check your rent agreement before you make changes.

Will the lender ask for bills?

Most lenders don’t ask for bills on a personal loan, though they may ask what it is for. Keep quotes and bills for your own records.

Are there tax benefits?

Interest on money borrowed to repair or renovate your home may qualify for a deduction under Section 24(b) in the old tax regime, within its limits, if you can show how the money was used. Keep the interest certificate and the bills, and ask a tax adviser about your case.

Does Firstfund charge me anything?

No. Sharing your details with Firstfund is free. Lenders may charge a processing fee, which they must show in the Key Fact Statement.
